Title: Weakness
Characters: Giles, Buffy, Spike
Setting: BtVS Season Seven
(A/N: This isn’t a pairing ficlet just General)
Summary: Giles tells Buffy that she has to get rid of her biggest weakness…Spike. (I’m a big fan of Giles, but at this time in the show Giles wants Spike staked, so he’ll seem like a huge meanie in this ficlet) (kind-of spaming here with all the posts... so, I'll be stoping now, I promise!!!:D)
Giles leaned against the wooden beam and gave Buffy a forced smile, “will you just talk to me about this?” he said and then glared at the passed out vampire chained to the wall.
Buffy looked up and shook her head, “there is nothing to talk about, Giles,” she said and reached out slowly to brush the curls off Spike’s face, “He needs me right now.”
“The world needs you more, Buffy,” he whispered and flinched when she snapped her eyes up and gave him a death glare.
“Don’t tell me what my duties are, Giles! You will never know what it means to have the world’s fate in your hands,” she hissed.
Giles stood upright and clenched his hands into fists, “you think, because I don’t go into every battle physically…that I’m not there with you in here!” he shouted as he hit his chest where his heart lay, “I’m there every time!” he yelled. “Every time you walk out that door I’m praying to anyone who will listen that the girl I see as my own daughter makes it back!”
Buffy got up slowly, “Giles,” she sighed not having the energy to handle his words, “What does that have to do with Spike?”
“Everything,” he sighed, “listens to me, we all have weaknesses, we all have things we would rather being doing. Do you think I want you to fight in wars, Buffy?” he asked and then waved his hand around the room, “But regardless, this is a war…and this is our bloody lives, no matter how much we wish it weren’t.”
She shook her head, “you think I don’t know that?” she hissed, “That’s why I’m trying to help Spike get better.”
“No, Buffy, you’re doing this because Spike’s your biggest weakness,” he said trying to keep his voice calm.
“No, Giles,” she said elongating her words, “it’s not that at all…he’s my biggest support…He’s the one that will stand by me in this war. He’s the only one here tough enough to face the First.”
Giles shook his head, “He’s being used by the First…he’s not a bloody hero...he is a pawn, you have to see that, Buffy.”
Buffy took a step forward, her eyes icy cold, “I’ll help him through this…and HE will be a hero, Giles, I have faith in that.”
“Then your faith is misguided…you’re using your heart in this matter, not your head.” He said softly.
Buffy clenched her eyes tightly closed, “Giles, I’m not one to ever use my heart in any matter, you know this better than anyone…I can barely say the words love…” she trailed off and sighed, “Please can’t you just have faith that I know what I’m doing.”
Giles took out a stake and shook his head, “not in this matter…No, Buffy, I can’t.”
Buffy grabbed the stake and stared at him in shock, “you think I’d stand by and let you stake him?!”
“You have too,” he yelled, “He is out killing innocents...Buffy, we have a war…”
“NO!” she roared and threw down the stake, “I’m not talking about this any more! I’ll win this war and you know why, Giles?”
She didn’t wait for an answer, “because,” she hissed and looked over at the vampire just waking up, “Spike will be by my side.”
Giles stepped away and shook his head in disappointment, “Buffy, you’re a foolish girl if you think you can tame a demon like William the Bloody.”
Buffy kneeled down in front of Spike, “good, because taming isn’t what I want, Giles,” she said and gave the vampire a small smile, “all I want is an ally by my side.”
